New season in Hamilton

The first tournament of the new season in Hamilton had a fantastic turnout with 12 players and there were some regulars missing. We have some big expectations next tournament as the HSC has proven commitment now for over a year. The word is spreading and we are gathering new players to the game as well as old players who haven't played in a bit. Peter Sexton also has some great news as the numbers are getting up there and will continue to push the limits of having a rotating home based host. We now have official an official home base in The Pheasant Plucker complete with storage space to keep our gear there. Thanks to all those who came out and enjoyed a great game, great day. we got to play outside. Thanks to Chris Faille for hosting.

As for the results, it was an exciting win for Peter Sexton to start the year off strong. he beat Stephen McNab (3-0) in the final while Brodyn Sexton and Shaun Burt lost in the semis.

8th title for Shane Hoopfer in Calgary

The Calgary event on the 11th went off very well with Shane Hoopfer beating Brian Redmond in the final. Ben Herrel made his first semi-final and Tom Stevenson once again made it through to the semi's. Keifer Korol scored his first goal in competition and Riad Kadri was very strong throughout the tourney only to be upset in the quarter finals by Ben 3-2 in the 14th round of the shootout! Logan Stevenson had to drop out after the round robin due to illness.  The next event in Calgary will be in mid-September and will mark the 1st anniversary of the Calgary Subbuteo Club's existence and will be it's 13th tournament. Exact date TBA.

(report by Shane Hoopfer)

End of the season in Hamilton Subbuteo Club

The first year of the Hamilton Subbuteo Club is in the books and thanks to the core and regular group of revolving players. We have many players coming back from a busy summer and some new players starting in September and the club is expecting to be having full 16 man tournaments (and for the regulars it's time to get a pitch and board so the same two don't have to always lug theirs or a collective purchase). We have asked WASPA if we can hold two tournament in our boring months of November & February and have the second tourney in each month count for July & August and it's been granted. We will see if we adopt this. I would also like to propose a Champions tournament as we have enough to run a league within a league, extra games played at tournaments and possibly off days if need be.

As for the tournament, 10 players took part, both quarter-finals went to penalties. Kevin Suffoletta beat Liam Sexton and Brodyn Sexton beat Shaun Burt. Semi-finals results were Peter Sexton beating Kevin and Stephen Mc Nab beating Brodyn. With Peter already cementing the league title, Stephen could have propelled to runner-up over Shaun but the cards weren't in his favour. Peter finished up with another victory.

The players of the Calgary Subbuteo Club met last week for their monthly tournament. This time only six players were present. In the final, there was no surprise as Hoopfer beat Stevenson by a clear 3-0 to claim his 7th title in the WASPA circuit. Well done Shane!

Peter Sexton wins in Hamilton

It was a great day of subbuteo in Hamilton on saturday as the local club tried the Swiss style and with the help of their technical director Stephen McNab it was a wonderful tournament. Unfortunately too many posts and crossbars kept Stephen from making it to the final. It was a repeat match up from the last final with Brodyn Sexton and Peter Sexton Peter came out the winner this time around. We had 9 players out which is great in the summer. Thanks to all that came. One last tournament and our first year as the HSC is officially in the books. can't wait for the next year as we have some more vested players to come out.

Semi-finals
Peter Sexton - Shaun Burt 1-0
Stephen McNab - Brodyn Sexton 0-1

Final:
Peter Sexton - Brodyn Sexton 5-1

Another success for Peter Sexton

13 players attended the Hamilton tournament on saturday. The Canadian club is still very active with many good players but this time, Peter Sexton won the title as he beat Stephen McNab on shots after a very close final (1-1). Sexton also defeated Shaun Burt on shots in the semi (1-1 and 5 shots to 4) while Brodyn Sexton was the other semi-finalist.

Great fun in Calgary

Calgary had 7 players at their event with a new U19 player on sunday! Everyone got a minimum of 7 games in and had a good time and the play has improved dramatically! There were great semi-finals with Shane Hoopfer beating Josh Braun on shots and Logan Stevenson beating Tom Stevenson (1-0). In the final, Shane and Logan tied but Shane won on shots. Well done! The next event in Calgary will take place on Sunday May 12, perhaps at a new location, too.

Gurmeet Khaira wins in Vancouver

Four players attended the second WASPA tournament held in Vancouver on Sunday March 31, 2013. Unfortunately it was difficult to find a better date so that more players could attend but there was good fun and some interesting games. Special thanks to the two new additions whom took time to understand the game better .After the group stage, Parjesh and Gurmeet had six points and qualified for the final. Gurmeet took the title when he won the game 1-0.

Big success in Hamilton

Nine players competed in the February HSC tournament. Super Bowl Sunday may have been a  factor on a day when 12 were expected to turn out. Big news though as finally there was an HSC tournament final not played between Peter and Shaun. Stephen forced his way into a final for the first time since the Toronto Tourney in September. Winner was as usual though, Peter with a 2-1 victory in the final. Beaten Semi-Finalist were Shaun and Brodyn. Next tournament date to be announced soon, looking at mid March. Can someone knock Peter off his perch?

Four players of the Calgary Subbuteo Club where present and Shane Hoopfer did it again by beating Logan Stevenson int he final. It was Shane's third title and Logan's first final. Josh Braun couldn't find a goal but his defense was stingy other than the first half of the first game.
